"Technology" refers to our knowledge and use of TOOLS and SKILLS
  • It allows us to :
    • provide ourselves with material things
    • shape our environment
    • solve problems

"Computer Technology" is only ONE type of technology
  • Make a list of other types can you find reference to. Do they fit this definition?
  • Pick a specific type of technology that TRULY interests you



Assignment Outline:
Prepare a brief research presentation called “Technology and Me”. It must include:
  • A clear description of the technology that you identified above
  • Why and when was that technology developed
  • What was the equivalent techology 20 years, 50 year and 100 years ago
  • What are the impacts of this technology on daily life, society and the environment
  • What are your predictions for this technology for future development

Students will be developing and presenting this presentation for tomorrow’s class - they can continue it’s development using the Internet as homework if need be.

The project can be formatted as a Powerpoint, GoogleDoc or "Open Office" presentation to include graphics and bullet points.

Rules of Effective "PowerPoint" Presentations
  • Text
    • 32 point text works
    • "Sans Serif" fonts work well on screen - ie. Verdana, Arial, Tahoma
  • 5 x 5 Rule
    • Keep a maximum of Five words per line
    • Keep a maximum of Five lines per slide
    • There are necessary Exceptions - don't allow UNnecessary exceptions
  • Backgrounds
    • Dont' use busy (noisy) backgrounds
    • Use a Dark Background with light text for easy "darkroom" presentations
  • Animation
    • Line by line is fine
    • Excessive animation can be annoying and distracting
Evaluation
  • FORMAT - How well presented is your work?
    • Clarity of information
    • Conformity with the rules of a good Powerpoint presentation
    • Creative and appropriate use of illustrations
  • CONTENT - How meaningful is your work?
    • Provides all required content (see outline)
    • Evidence and quality of research
    • Logical and original thought
